Iain Blackwood

Partner

As a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser and a Chartered Company Secretary, Iain is able to draw on a wide and deep knowledge of accounting, tax and corporate governance, together with his broad commercial experience, to deliver complete advice to his clients on a one-to-one basis for small to medium clients to board level advice to larger clients.

Iain qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1995 with a mid-tier firm after gaining eleven years of experience in practice. During a period of eight years in industry, the latter years in the role of Finance Director, he decided to specialise in tax taking the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, formally qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2002. Iain and Teresa Blackwood started the practice in that same year in order to apply that now specialised knowledge for the benefit of small to medium sized businesses in the local area. He is the tax partner in the firm.

He also acquired a huge amount of experience in the aforementioned role of finance director of a group of companies before starting the practice. He dealt with all aspects of commercial life managing the relationship with the group’s bankers, handling all health & safety issues, having full control of the groups quality assurance certification, developing extensive employment law knowledge and experience as well as handling the group’s accounting / tax compliance work and tax planning. During this time he developed the skill of reporting financial information to a non-technical board of directors’ in a timely and understandable way, a skill he brings to the client base today.

During the last fifteen years Iain has undertaken all company secretarial work which includes share structuring, shareholder agreements, articles drafting and all Companies House reporting and compliance across the client base. In 2017 he joined The Governance Institute as a student taking their professional examinations before being admitted to membership in July 2021.

Ian Futcher

Partner

Ian qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1997 with a mid tier firm. He joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in February 2005 as the audit and accounts partner.

Ian is a general practitioner, and has vast experience in advising both professional firms and individuals in audit, accounting, business development, management accounting, business acquisitions and disposals. Ian brings a wealth of experience in communicating financial information in a clear and meaningful way to people at all levels within a business.

Teresa Blackwood

Non technical partner

Teresa founded the practice with Iain in 2002. She is the non technical partner in the firm, dealing with the day to day running of the practice and staff matters. Teresa also has a wealth of experience in bookkeeping and looks after the credit control of the firm. She is keen to assist clients in providing suitable payment methods.

Sara Gee

Personal tax manager

Sara has worked in personal tax for over thirty years. After leaving Manchester University with a degree in law she joined Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) in London before moving on to KPMG in Guildford where she managed the private tax department. Since having her family, she has worked in smaller local firms, joining Blackwood Futcher & Co in 2011. She has considerable experience in individuals’ and partnerships' self assessment compliance and income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax planning. She also has a track record of minimizing additional liabilities and penalties when resolving HMRC investigations and enquiries.

Alistair Thurlow

Corporate tax manager

Alistair qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant and a Chartered Tax Adviser in a mid tier firm and joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in 2012. Alistair is the firm’s Corporate Tax Manager, and has a wealth of experience including dealing with corporate tax compliance and planning, individual and partnership self assessment, HM Revenue & Customs enquires and investigations, Enterprise Investment Schemes and share option related issues.

Philippa English

Accounts Manager

Philippa qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2004 within a small practice, before gaining further experience in a mid-tier firm. She joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in 2014 and specialises in the preparation of year end accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders, together with management accounts for a wide range of clients.

Guy Moorey

Accountant

Guy qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in a mid tier firm and joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in 2011. He specialises in the preparation of year end accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders. He is also responsible for the preparation of the monthly and quarterly management accounts for a wide range of clients.

Raj Shrestha

Accountant

Raj qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2017 within a small practice. He joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in March 2018 and specialises in the preparation of year end accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders, together with management accounts for a wide range of clients.

Craig Blackman

Accountant

Craig is a ACCA Qualified Accountant and joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in 2018. He specialises in the preparation of year end accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders. He is also responsible for the preparation of the monthly and quarterly management accounts for a wide range of clients.

Nicola Blackwood

Payroll manager

Nicola joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in 2009 and heads up our payroll department She works closely with the firm’s clients to ensure they are confident and happy with the service. Nicola is also an experienced bookkeeper and has a variety of skills assisting the partners in various ad hoc assignments.

Emma Searle

Administrator / payroll

Emma joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in March 2018. She has a varied administrative role within the practice, providing valuable support to the partners and staff, and also providing payroll services to a wide range of clients.

Toni Orr

Bookkeeper / payroll

Toni joined Blackwood Futcher & Co in September 2016. She has a varied role within the practice, providing bookkeeping and payroll services.
